Hacking can also be refered to as 'enumeration'. It is the method by which a person sitting on his computer can gain control of another person's computer using various 'weak points' also refered to as 'back doors'.
Hacking is one is the most popular 'sport' of computer specialists. Many people considered it as a boon. It broadens one's perspective of a computer and its functions. People learning hacking marvel the true powers of the computer. Ultimate power just sitting down in one place and typing commands, etc.
But this 'sport' has its limits. Many people misuse this information for their good or for others bad. Hacking is a pure sport, like say a maze....
